Weekly wrap up

We got some new video's in the mail (you can order them free From HHMI: Howard Hughes Medical Institute). Some on memory/brain, facial expressions, origin of species, evolution etc. That I thought might be good. There's even one in there that Hans might be interested in watching. We also did some more work on the ocean unit study and started decorating the cover for their unit...

We did a fast "field trip" to the local pet store and Kaitlyn took a couple of pictures..She's discovered it's harder to take pictures through the glass than she thought..

I also discovered something...I need a science lab. We have 5 experiments going right now, and in different places. It would be nice to have them in one location...Guess that's my next job. Finding and clearing out for a lab section. I also need to start trying to save up for a microscope and some slides. The girls are really interested in trying to look at things through the microscope and while I can pull some things up on the internet, they want to be able to do some of their own.

Then Saturday we went to the tulip fest. We had a bit of a windy, wet, drizzle for the Easter egg hunt, but it wasn't horrible. The girls picked up a LOT of eggs. Dominic even had help from Daddy to get one. Then it was off to see some of the fun stuff.
Kaitlyn and Arianna got to make their own leather wrist bands...

Kaitlyn really had fun with the whole process and is now wanting to look into doing some leather work. Arianna enjoyed it, but Kaitlyn was a bit more enthusiastic about it. After that they went to the balloon lady and got some balloon animals. They waited patiently in line and when they finally got up to the front Arianna picked first. She wanted a blue octopus, so the lady started getting the balloons ready and then asked the girls who many legs an octopus had. Both girls answered "eight". The lady said "eight?" the girls were happy to help her out..Arianna explained that 4 + 4 was eight...and just in case there was still any question Kaitlyn made sure to explain that 2 x 4 was also correct. A few seconds later one of the legs exploded. So the balloon lady said "oops! We lost a leg! I guess it's not an octopus anymore. What could it be?" Kaitlyn looked at her and replied "squid".  I think they have sea animals on the brain! Kaitlyn however decided she'd rather have a purple monkey...

We had a nice time, even with the rain. Tomorrow the rain is supposed to be pretty much gone for the day before returning for the week. Sigh. We are all looking forward to some more nice days!
