Rainforest fun...and more

So the last week we've been doing fun stuff, but I kept forgetting to download the photo's so I finally did that tonight and will show you some of the fun stuff finally!
Earlier last week, Kaitlyn worked on a bird project using modeling clay. Since so many of the birds in the rainforest are colorful and pretty she decided to do her own rainforest bird and nest..
Here is momma bird sitting on the nest taking care of her eggs. Next to her nest is a big flower (just in case you couldn't tell). We also printed out a habitat game off of filefolderfun.com to play. We wanted them to be a bit more "card" like so I picked up a sheet of whiteboard from the dollar tree for 50 cents, applied them to the whiteboard after cutting the sheets apart. Once the glue dried I did a nicer cut out for the cards and the name templates....
Lots of animals to discuss, and  discover where they live. We also went down and bought the stuff to make our "rainforest in a jar" project with the science club.
I picked up the jars/vases at goodwill for about 99 cents each, the two fish bowls were less than 3 and the big glass pitcher in the middle was a bit more expensive, but it makes a cool rainforest jar. We stopped off and bought some creepy crawly bugs from the dollar tree for our rainforests, Picked up some plants, charcoal, and soil at the garden center. Then to be sure I knew what I was doing  I went ahead and made mine up...

So far so good! I did a small layer of charcoal across the bottom, followed by about 2 inches of soil, put in a few clippings of the bigger  plants, added in my plastic lizard, sprayed in a little water, put on the top and DONE.  Next science club all the kids will be making their own so that should be lots of fun! On top of all that we got part of our next unit in the mail....

We ordered these sometime before  Christmas I guess (don't remember for sure) and we finally got them! The girls had a fun time looking at the old pictures and did some minor reading  since we're still doing the rainforest stuff right now. But they do look forward to learning more about them!
And of course the kids are still doing their music practice almost everyday...
Looking forward to the science club this week!
