Archeology and Ancient Egypt

It's been an interesting day. I was replying to a couple of forums for homeschoolers and realized that I have a hard time remembering that the girls are only K and 1st grade. I'm not sure if it's because we just don't pay much attention to what "grade" something should be and just go with what we are interested in, or we don't think of them being so young because of their varied interests.

Someone was wondering what the schedule was for a Kinder kid. Since we don't have a schedule it's always a hard question to answe. So today, we had math riddles (for us that means more fun with negative numbers 2 + -2 and so forth) and then worked on some multiplication and addition (mostly in the car on our way to various errands). Then we read about archeology, what they do and how they do it. Which led to us pretending to "discover" a buried artifact that we had to clean up, protect from the environment, study and decipher the images on and take an educated guess as to what the artifact was...An alarm clock from ancient china.  LOL. Then we discussed how a future archeological dig could change what we know about said artifact. How we try and piece together a picture of what the society may have been like, etc.  All of that led to a discussion of grave robbers, lost treasures from Ancient Egypt etc. Tomorrow we read more about archeology and Ancient Egypt and life there.  We have a couple more things to do tomorrow as well, but we'll see how much we get to.

They are also hoping to get a couple of new experiments started, so I guess I'll have to look around and see what I can come up with.

The girls watched a couple of video's (for fun, not related to anything we learned today). Played outside a bit, did their music lessons, and are now in bed "discussing" their day. While Dominic has a minor meltdown waiting for Daddy to get him. Daddy flew down early EARLY this morning to San Francisco to renew his passport. I just got a message saying he's back to our Airport and will be home before long. Unfortunately Dominic doesn't seem to believe it. Nor will poor Daddy be in the mood to play mattress I'm sure since he's been up since 3 a.m.! I also have to get paperwork together for Dominic to get his passport and renew mine. At least we don't have to go far to get ours!
