Fun with science...

(I started to call it Snow, Crystals and Rock n Roll...and that sounded fairly illegal..)

So we had fun with science the last couple of days..
Yesterday we made oobleck...And none of us are exactly sure how to pronounce that....
We got the info from this link...http://www.iflscience.com/chemistry/do-try-home
and wanted to give it a try..Now we don't have a great subwoofer so it was a "shot in the dark" to see if it would actually work...Here's a video of what we did...YOU MAY WANT TO TURN DOWN ANY SPEAKERS BEFORE YOU HIT THAT PLAY BUTTON...you have been warned :)

The kids had lots of fun, but I think it was a bit to thick for what we were really wanting to do, so we are going to try again next week when we have another day of great weather and all the neighbors are gone so we don't get a noise complaint...

This morning we wanted to get a few other experiments out of the way...
We started with putting together the crystal tree. It will take about 24 hours according to the instructions (and we are already seeing some progress).
Tomorrow this "tree" should be mostly crystals...Keeping our fingers crossed and I'll post the results when it's done.

Then we made some fun snow...
The kids played with it a little and then it was on to the next set of crystals...
We added the crystals to the water, three different colors (only one pictured above) and about an hour later...
Pretty cool! They have some beautiful shapes and designs to them...

They came out of a little kit we got from the dollar store, and as they dry out they reshrink and we are supposed to be able to reuse them. We'll see..
Once the science part of that was done, the kids decided it was another 'outdoor school" day and started pulling everything outside...including baby brother...

They even brought out the flowers their friend Cris brought them yesterday for the middle of the table..
Still have a very full day today, the kids are currently eating, then its off to music lessons and getting to the rest of my "to do list"...
